I Jeongyang SG’s Passive Solution Leading the Carbon-Neutral Era

In cold winter weather, heating is essential to daily life. However, the longer and more intensively heating systems operate, the greater the energy costs, fuel consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions. As climate change and carbon neutrality have emerged as global priorities, the building sector is also facing an urgent need for technological innovation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Against this backdrop, the concept of the Zero Energy Building (ZEB) has gained increasing attention.
A Zero Energy Building is a sustainable building approach that minimizes annual energy consumption and produces the energy it requires through renewable energy sources, thereby achieving a high degree of energy self-sufficiency.
The realization of zero-energy buildings depends not only on active technologies such as solar power generation, but also on the quality of passive technologies, including insulation, airtightness, and high-performance windows. Among these, thermal break technology is drawing particular attention as a key solution for maximizing insulation efficiency and minimizing energy loss.
Based on these passive technologies, Jeongyang SG, led by CEO Byung-kwon Ahn, has pioneered the development and distribution of LBN Modular, a structural thermal break product that significantly improves the thermal performance of buildings. Through continued technological innovation, the company is contributing to the realization of sustainable zero-energy buildings.

Simply applying thicker, high-performance insulation is not enough. What matters is maintaining structural continuity so that the insulation layer remains uninterrupted throughout the entire building. However, at projecting structures such as balconies and parapets, the concrete structure penetrates the exterior insulation layer, inevitably creating thermal bridges.
Although these areas are not readily visible, they become critical weak points where heat loss is concentrated, particularly in highly insulated buildings. Like a tiny hole in a thermos or an open zipper on a warm jacket, even a small break can reduce the overall energy performance of a building.
There are two main approaches to addressing this issue.
The first is to wrap the entire projecting structure in insulation. However, this method involves high construction costs and significant design limitations.
The second is to install a load-bearing insulation product, or structural thermal break product, within the structure.
The second approach is the most efficient solution, as it maintains continuous insulation while preserving structural stability. LBN Modular, developed by Jeongyang SG, is a representative example of this technology.

Drawing on decades of accumulated insulation expertise and experience in government-funded projects, Jeongyang SG independently developed LBN Modular, a structural thermal break product.
Installed within concrete structures, the product provides thermal insulation while supporting structural loads. It maintains continuous insulation in exterior insulation systems, preventing thermal bridging, minimizing building energy loss, and reducing heating energy consumption by approximately 30% or more. It also prevents condensation and mold growth at the source, creating a comfortable and healthy indoor environment.

Jeongyang SG’s LBN Modular was developed through multiple government-funded R&D projects. Since receiving New Excellent Product (NEP) certification in 2022, its technological excellence and quality have been officially recognized by various government agencies through its designation as an Innovative Product and Excellent Procurement Product, selection for the Top 50 Outstanding SME R&D Achievements, and recognition for Outstanding Social Problem-Solving R&D Achievements.
The originality and performance of the technology have also been academically validated through registered patents and research papers published in SCI- and KCI-indexed journals.

The domestic thermal break market remains at an early stage, with limited access to relevant information and insufficient industry awareness. To address this challenge, Jeongyang SG systematically analyzed policies, market conditions, and technological trends in major overseas markets through industrial technology analysis support provided by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI).
Young-jong Yoo, Director of Jeongyang SG’s Research Institute, stated, “KISTI’s technical support enabled us to closely examine thermal break policies and market trends in different countries and systematically establish a strategy for entering the domestic market.”
Byung-jung Kim, Team Leader at KISTI, added, “Thermal break requirements are already mandatory components of building assessments in Europe and the United States, while Korea currently treats them only as recommendations. Because thermal break technology must be incorporated during the initial building design stage, a stronger institutional framework is needed.”
